As of October 2026, at least 28 independent AI agent startups are valued at $1 billion or more. The most valuable is Cognition, the maker of the Devin coding agent, at $48 billion. This page lists all of them, with the latest reported valuation, category, and source for each. We update it as new rounds close.
This list covers independent companies whose core product is an AI agent or the platform that runs agents. It is part of our guide to the agentic AI landscape and sits alongside our AI agent acquisitions tracker.
What is an AI agent unicorn?
An AI agent unicorn is a private startup valued at $1 billion or more whose main product is an AI agent. An AI agent is software that takes actions on its own, not just answers questions. It can read data, use tools, and finish a task with little human help. A unicorn is any private company worth $1 billion or more.
This list counts only independent companies. It leaves out agent startups that have been acquired, and it leaves out the frontier model labs. More on both choices below.
How many AI agent unicorns are there in 2026?
There are at least 28 independent AI agent unicorns in 2026. The number is rising fast. Round sizes have grown, and several companies crossed $1 billion for the first time this year. The real count is likely higher, because some rounds are reported through secondary markets before they are confirmed.

Figures are the latest reported post money valuations. Where a company has not confirmed its most recent round, we show the best secondary market estimate and mark it with a tilde. See our method below.
Which AI agent startup is the most valuable?

Cognition is the most valuable independent AI agent startup, at $48 billion. It raised a $2 billion Series E in September 2026, up from a $25 billion pre money valuation just four months earlier. Its Devin agent reportedly reached annual recurring revenue near $900 million. Sierra and Harvey follow at about $15.8 billion and $15.5 billion.
Cursor was briefly set to be the most valuable name in this space, but it is no longer independent. SpaceX acquired it for $60 billion in August 2026, the largest startup acquisition on record. Because it is now owned, it sits in our acquisitions tracker rather than this list.
Which category has the most AI agent unicorns?
Coding has the most AI agent unicorns, with seven: Cognition, Lovable, Poolside, Replit, Factory, Windsurf, and Magic. Customer service is next, led by Sierra, Decagon, and Parloa. Legal is third, with Harvey, Legora, EvenUp, and Eve. These three fields hold most of the value in the market, because the work is high volume and easy to measure.
Which AI agent unicorns raised the most in 2026?
The biggest AI agent rounds of 2026 so far are Cognition’s $2 billion Series E in September, Legora’s $600 million Series D in the spring, and Decagon’s $250 million Series D in January. HappyRobot joined the unicorn club in August with a $150 million Series C at $1.2 billion. Harvey and Sierra both roughly tripled their valuations during the year.
AI agent unicorns that have been acquired
Several agent startups reached unicorn status and were then bought. These are exits, not open investments, so we track them separately in our acquisitions tracker.
- Cursor, acquired by SpaceX for $60 billion, August 2026
- Moveworks, acquired by ServiceNow for about $2.85 billion
- Paradox, recruiting AI, acquired
- Cognigy, contact center AI, acquired by NICE
- Amelia, conversational automation, acquired
Why aren’t OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI on this list?
OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI are frontier model labs, not agent companies. They build the models that agents run on, and they are worth far more than any pure agent startup. OpenAI and Anthropic are each valued near or above $1 trillion. Including them would hide the story this list is meant to tell, which is how big the standalone agent market has become on its own.
How we track this list
We count a company when it is private, independent, and valued at $1 billion or more, and when its core product is an AI agent or the platform that runs agents. Valuations come from confirmed rounds where possible, and from reported secondary market estimates where a round is not yet closed. We mark estimates with a tilde and date the page at the top. If a company is acquired, it moves to our acquisitions tracker. We review the list monthly and after any major round.
